Ben Gordon figured he had missed at least one 3-pointer. It was one of the few times he misfired on Friday night.
Gordon made nine 3-pointers without a miss to tie the NBA record and scored 32 points to help the Chicago Bulls take sole possession of eighth place in the Eastern Conference with a 103-101 victory over the Washington Wizards.
He matched the record set by Latrell Sprewell for New York against the Clippers on Feb. 4, 2003.
"I didn't know how many 3s I had, honestly," he said.

Mavericks 104, Wizards 94 (AP)
Jason Terry and Dirk Nowitzki scored 25 points apiece, and the Dallas Mavericks pulled away in the second half for a 104-94 victory over the Washington Wizards on Friday night. Jerry Stackhouse, booed every time he touched the ball by Wizards fans disenchanted with his two seasons in Washington, added 17 points off the bench for the Mavericks, who won their third straight and sixth in seven games.

A six-game road trip doesn't look quite as imposing to the Washington Wizards now. The Wizards opened their longest trip of the season by setting a team record with 16 3-pointers in a 109-97 win over the Utah Jazz on Thursday. "It's a great feeling to start off a road trip like that," said Gilbert Arenas, who led the Wizards with 31 points.

As much as the New Jersey Nets and Washington Wizards count on their outstanding trios, it helps to have scoring from elsewhere, too. The Nets got more of a boost from role players Tuesday night and that, coupled with Richard Jefferson's 21-point second half, allowed New Jersey to break open a tight game late, beating Washington 112-100 for its sixth consecutive victory.

Coach Mike Dunleavy knows the Los Angeles Clippers have an outside shot of breaking the franchise record for victories. He has loftier goals on his agenda, however. So does Elton Brand, whose 32 points and nine rebounds helped the Clippers rout Washington 116-101 on Saturday for their 40th victory of the season.

The trainers stopped the bleeding just long enough for Caron Butler to shoot his free throws. After a quick trip to the locker room for six hasty stitches in his hairline, he was back on the court. The Washington Wizards were short-handed, travel-weary and generally battered. They still wouldn't let a little blood or a lot of sweat divert them from an impressive win.

Most of Golden State's fans finally have forgiven Gilbert Arenas for leaving them. They probably wish Arenas and Antawn Jamison would lay off the Warriors they left behind, though. Arenas scored 40 points and Jamison added 31 as they beat their old team with a sensational two-man show, leading the Washington Wizards to a 116-98 victory over Golden State on Monday night.

Gilbert Arenas, the NBA's fourth-leading scorer, missed the Washington Wizards' game at Sacramento on Tuesday night with an apparent case of the flu. Arenas felt ill at the Wizards' morning shootaround after scoring 40 points in a 116-98 victory over the Golden State Warriors on Monday night, coach Eddie Jordan said.
